5 Mind-Blowing Benefits of Epsom Salt

Epsom salt has been used as a remedy for bodily ailments for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks used it to soothe sore muscles and arthritis discomfort. People were also aware of its various cosmetic benefits. In fact, Cleopatra soaked in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea as a way to preserve her youth. Here are 5 mind-blowing benefits of epsom salt:

1. Reduces Anxiety and Irritability

Magnesium and sulfates are what give Epsom salt its extensive benefits. Magnesium deficiency is extremely common. It contributes to a host of problems some of which include fatigue, anxiety, poor memory, and insomnia. Soaking in an Epsom bath allows the body to take up much-needed magnesium. You’ll also feel astonishingly relaxed as magnesium is also responsible for the production of the feel-good hormone serotonin.

2. Better Sleep

You can get a better night’s sleep after an Epsom salt bath because serotonin also helps regulate sleep. For the best results, take a warm Epsom salt bath before bed.

3. Reduces Inflammation and Pain

Epsom salt is a drug-free remedy for inflammation and pain. Magnesium reduces inflammation through its effect on enzymes that control swelling. Reduced inflammation puts less stress on tissues, diminishing pain. Additionally, salt works to draw fluid from cells to lessen swelling.

4. Clear Sinuses

Saline sprays are effective in clearing sinuses but are full of other chemicals. Prepare a warm bath with Epsom salt for a natural alternative.

5. Full Body Detox

One of my favorite uses for an Epsom salt bath is for a full body detox. The sulfates and salts naturally found in Epsom salt remove toxins by reverse osmosis. Simply sit back and let the minerals do the work. I like to add a few drops of essential oils to my epsom salt bath for extra added benefits. Perfect oils

for nighttime relaxation are: lavender, chamomile, bergamot or frankincense.

The list of benefits doesn't stop here, there are many more incredibly beneficial reasons to soak into an epsom salt baths more frequently, but I hope this was enough of an insight to get you excited to try it out.
